Habib Johm comes from the famous Johm-Njie Griot family in The Gambia, where music and storytelling have been passed down for generations. From a young age, he learned to play traditional instruments like the Sabar, Tama, and Halam, growing up surrounded by music with his grandfather, uncles, and brothers.

This family tradition led to the creation of the Biba Rhythm Band (BRB), now one of The Gambia’s leading groups. Under Habib’s leadership, BRB blends Afro, Mbalax, Reggae, Salsa-Mbalax, and Folklore, performing at major events across the country and beyond.

Before starting BRB, Habib played with the Humanity Starz, a band of young Red Cross volunteers who used music to support their community. He also helped found Haley Jamano and performed with the KMC Cultural Group.

Over the years, Habib has brought Gambian rhythms to stages worldwide, from Casamance and Morocco to Gambia’s own cultural festivals. Today, with nine talented musicians by his side, he continues to share the rich sounds of Gambian tradition while creating fresh, modern music for new audiences.
